More than 50 pieces of vintage bombs were dug up at a construction site inside the compound of the United States Embassy along Roxas Blvd. in Manila on Friday afternoon, the police reported on Saturday.
With the discovery of the World War II bombs, US Embassy employees and visitors were immediately evacuated from the area. The construction workers were also ordered to vacate the premises for their safety.
Investigation conducted by the Manila Police District- Explosives and Ordnance Division (MPD-EOD) showed that the bombs were found at 6 p.m. Friday.
Bomb experts retrieved the pieces of mortar and artillery from the site of a new building under construction on the rear portion of the compound near Manila Bay. - PNA
