Workers told to safeguard rights, welfare under ECC

LIPA CITY, Batangas -- A top official of the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) urged workers to be aware and safeguard their rights, welfare and benefits under the agency's program.

In a report on Sunday, ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis together with ECC officials spearheaded the advocacy seminar at the Blue Sapphire Social Events Corporation in this city to intensify information and awareness on ECC improved services among workers.

She told more than 150 seminar attendees that the ECC is encouraging establishments from various business establishments, private sector and government agencies to also disseminate the information and broaden awareness among the workers’ ranks in Batangas and neighboring areas.

ECC has embarked on its awareness campaign in coordination with and support from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Calabarzon regional office.

According to Banawis, their information campaign covers not only on the three components of the EC Program such as prevention, compensation and rehabilitation services but also on focusing recent EC Program reforms.

These reforms, Banawis said, are anchored on the “3Es” or Equalize, Enhance and Expand EC Benefits to improve the program.

Consultation meetings with both the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and Social Security System (SSS) offices based in Batangas were also held on Friday to update officers on recent EC program policies and facilitate future processing of EC Claims.

Aside from Banawis, lawyer Jonathan Villasoto, ECC Director and Dr. Raymond Banaga, Medical Officer II of the Work Contingency and Rehabilitation Division also graced the seminar and presented two of their EC recipients.

The ECC is now ISO 9001:2015 certified and has been a recipient of four recognition awards from the recently held 34th ASEAN Social Security Association (ASSA) Convention held in Udonthani, Thailand. (Maroe T. Genosa/PNA)
