Woman raped, tortured
CAGAYAN DE ORO -- Not contented with raping her, a group of suspects shaved the head of a woman, burned her genitals with cigarettes and vandalized her body.
That's how police described the cruelty inflicted on the 24-year-old victim, a fourth year student in one of the universities in this city, who came Monday to a radio station seeking for help.

The staff of Bombo Radyo thought the victim was "insane because her hair is shaved off, including her eyebrows, and she's clad in a tattered, dirty t-shirt," said a police investigator at the Police Station 1 in Divisoria.
"She had the appearance of a mentally ill person. She didn't speak clearly, possibly because of psychological trauma she had suffered, and was not understood," said the police, who requested anonymity because the victim's grandmother asked authorities to be discreet on the incident when facing the media.
Abducted
The victim told police that she was abducted in broad daylight by a group of men at the basement parking area of Gaisano Mall along C.M. Recto Street last Wednesday.
She said the men -- the number of whom she can't recall -- forcibly dragged her into a waiting green pick-up type vehicle, tied up her feet and blindfolded her.
Although blindfolded, the victim said she could tell she was being transported somewhere in Bukidnon province.
"She said the car turned into many zigzag roads, and to her judgment, they were heading to Bukidnon," the investigator told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
The victim stays at the house of her relative in Barangay Macasandig but is a native of Gingoog City.
Text message
She said she was supposed to go to Gingoog City on the day she was abducted. She said she received a text message telling her that a car was already waiting at the mall's basement parking.
The woman said the sender was unknown to her, but she took a chance to find it out and got kidnapped instead.
Police said this particular claim is still subject for further verification, and that they did not immediately try to explore how and why the sender knew her number.
"We had to let her freely narrate the incident. We did not ask questions right there and then because she was still in a confused and shocked state," the investigator said.
At the place where the kidnappers brought her, the woman said the suspects alternately raped her, burned her genital area and some parts of her body, and vandalized it with a marker pen.
Investigators said the woman appeared to have burns on her right arm when they brought her to the Police Station 1 Monday morning. On her body, written were the words "bigas ka lang."
Mentally ill
The victim said the suspects dumped her at the McArthur Park in Velez Street around 3 a.m. Monday.
She said she tried to get help from bystanders but she was turned away, thinking she was mentally ill.
Police said they fetched the woman from Bombo Radyo after receiving a call from the radio station.
It was learned that the woman's relatives had reported to the police her unexplained disappearance two days after she was abducted.
Police Officer (PO) 3 Dante Mier of Macasandig Police Station said that on March 27, the victim's relatives reported that she failed to return home for two days already.
The woman, PO3 Mier said, is staying at the house of a relative in Barangay Macasandig.
As of this posting Monday, the victim is confined at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC). (ALR/Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro/Sunnex)
