The 52 remaining participants went on to compete in the final round called ‘Last Hero Standing,’ where they were made to stand on a wooden platform and had to carry metal plates or perform physical exercises. One by one, the contestants stepped down until it was just Mario and Evan there.
“I was about to cry. My tears were something that’s divine,†Mario Mendoza Jr. says. “Lord thank you. I’m so thankful during that time dahil hindi niya ako pinabayaan and from the start sinabi ko na sa kanya, Lord I am not perfect physically. I am not the strongest here. With you, you have the reason why I am here and please Lord show me and guide me through the way.â€
Evan Rey Datun on the other hand shows intense focus on the last challenge. “To be honest the only thing that comes to mind is never miss an opportunity. Believe in yourself. Believe that God will give this to you,†he says.
However, the journey is far from over for Mario and Evan. They will now be sent to the International AXE Apollo Space Camp in America where only one of them will get a seat at the launch vehicle to space.
AXE Philippines Brand Manager Gem Laforteza says that they will undergo three to four days of astronaut training, flight and G-force simulation. Laforteza advises Mario and Evan to be the best version of themselves once they are in the space camp. “I’m very happy. I think it will be interesting to find out who will eventually go to space given their backgrounds,†he says.
Astronaut wannabes still have a chance as AXE announces a ‘wild card’ candidate that will be selected through an electronic raffle. Details are available at
