Bohol. We can't get enough of this little province, an example for the rest of us and a showcase for what tourism can be: low impact, low crime and wholesome fun.
Most travellers staying with Vicky take a farm tour led by an animated young agriculturist named Ronel, who treats his groups to the scents of nearly a dozen herbs. When not busy with tourists, the workers make handicrafts, keeping alive weaving and basketmaking traditions that might otherwise be fading away.
We stayed in a charmingly visionary place called Bohol Bee Farm on Panglao Island, near the bridge that connects the island to Bohol's mainland. Every detail in this home away from home shows the artistry of its Boholana owner, Vicky Wallace, a long-time US resident who came home to introduce a new way of life. The food is organic and tasty, and much of the produce comes from its backyard or nearby farms, including of course the honey from the resident bees
