The bodies of Cheryl Casan and her five-year old son, Brylle, remained unclaimed in a funeral parlor in Manila, a police official said.
Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr., chief of the Homicide Investigation Section of the Quezon City Police District, said that although some people had called up the Prudential funeral parlor and claimed they were relatives of Casan, they had yet to show up to get the bodies.
Casan, a 32-year-old teacher from Iligan City, allegedly poisoned her son and then hanged herself inside a hotel in Quezon City due to depression over her husband's alleged extra-marital affairs.
“As of yesterday morning the remains of the victim and her son were still at the funeral parlor in Manila and still unclaimed. But a man who identified himself as the brother called to take the body,'' Pedrozo said.
He added that the relatives of the deceased were expected to arrive from Iligan City in Mindanao.
Pedrozo said that police could not arrest the woman’s husband as there simply were no grounds to do so.
“There's no legal basis to arrest him but we would like to talk to him about some matters regarding the death of the victims,'' Pedrozo said.
“If the relatives have reservations on the cause of the death, they can request for another autopsy of the bodies,'' he added.
Pedrozo said that he was still waiting for the laboratory results to determine the kind of poison given to the boy.
Casan and her son were found dead by the staff of Sogo Hotel in Novaliches, Quezon City, on Wednesday. The mother and child checked into the hotel on Tuesday morning.
The staff found the boy on the bed with his mouth frothing, while the mother was found hanging by the neck in the shower.
A suicide note apparently written by Casan was found beside a table, police said.
