‘Nina’ maintains strength, expected to make a landfall over Catanduanes on Christmas Day

MANILA, Dec. 23 (PNA) -- Severe tropical storm (STS) “Nina†is expected to intensify further before making landfall, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
STS “Nina†is expected to make landfall over Catanduanes on Christmas day, either in the afternoon or evening.
As of 10 p.m. Friday, "Nina" has maintained its strength and continues to move in a west northwest direction at 20 kph.
It has maximum sustained winds of up to 105 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 130 kph.
Estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy rains within its 400 km diameter of “Ninaâ€.
The center of “Nina†was last eyed at some 700 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.
Sea travel is risky over the Seaboards of northern Luzon, PAGASA said.
Catanduanes, Sorsogon, northern and eastern Samar are currently under tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) no. 1. (PNA)
