MANILA, Nov. 18 (PNA) -- Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers urged on Friday suspected drug lord Rolan “Kerwin†Espinosa Jr. to make public the sources of his illegal drugs, including his supposed coddlers and protectors, during his drug dealing operations in Eastern Visayas.
In a statement, Barbers, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Dangerous Drugs, also urged Kerwin to cooperate and disclose the identity of people who facilitated his escape from Manila to Hong Kong, then to Malaysia and later on to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates where he was caught by Interpol operatives.
He said Kerwin’s disclosure on his illegal drug operations in the past is vital since this would unmask the “narco-politicians†and “narco-generals†who personally and financially benefitted from his illegal activities.
"The government is considering him (Kerwin) to become a state witness. To be able to avail of it, he should cooperate and muster the courage to blow the whistle against private and public officials that made his drug dealing operations flourish in the past,†Barbers said.
Kerwin arrived in Manila on board Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight 657 from Abu Dhabi at around 3:41 a.m. Friday after months in hiding.
Kerwin and his late father, Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., were earlier accused by President Rodrigo Duterte as big players behind the proliferation of illegal drugs in Eastern Visayas.
Espinosa Sr. and another drug suspect, Raul Yap, were killed in an alleged firefight at the Baybay, Leyte Sub-provincial Jail in the early morning of Nov. 4, 2016 by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Northern Leyte operatives led by Police Chief Inspector Leo Laraga.
PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa, who led the team that fetched Kerwin at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), assured the latter’s safety. (PNA)
