A foundation led by a sister of President Benigno “Noynoy†S. Aquino III on Thursday turned over five pre-school buildings to local officials in Cebu.
“Let’s start right when they enter Grade I,†said Pinky Aquino-Abellada, the chairperson of "Aklat, Gabay, Aruga Tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa" (Aggap).
Gabriel Cruz, Cebu representative of Aggap, said they are building 100 classrooms in a year and another 1,000 classrooms in six years.
Two of the five school buildings in Cebu are in Mandaue City.
Abellada said they build classrooms to reduce dropout rates of pupils.
Each classroom has a built-in library to provide pupils with learning tools, as “their way of fighting poverty.â€
“That’s our dream,†Abellada said.
Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes said this is a big help to students because the classrooms also come with books. - pna
