The
Shangri-la Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong City was temporarily closed to customers on Saturday following a fire in its basement the night before.
The mall management was unavailable for comment as the mall offices were closed on Saturday but employees of its sister company, the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel, said that they were asked to tell hotel guests that usually frequent the adjacent mall that the establishment was to remain closed for the day.
EDSA Shangri-la Hotel duty manager Maricar de Ocampo told the Inquirer that Shangri-la's mall management had not given any reason for the temporary closure and had not advised them on when the mall is due to reopen.
"They only said to wait for further notice," said De Ocampo.
Fire broke out in the basement stockroom of Rustan’s at the Shangri-la Plaza Mall on EDSA corner Shaw Boulevard at 10:30 p.m. Friday, prompting mall security to evacuate tenants and moviegoers.
