Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago has filed a P1.6-million suit against an American airline company for a five-hour delay in a flight to Los Angeles from New York in 2008 during which she fell sick with fever.

In a 23-page civil complaint the against American Airlines and Airesources Inc., Santiago asked to be awarded P1.6 million in moral and exemplary damages, and in attorney’s fees.

The suit was filed in a Quezon City court on June 28, 2010, or two years after she took the American Airlines flight from New York to Los Angeles on her way home to Manila. The court released copies of the complaint only on Friday after serving summonses on the airline company.

“Defendant breached the contract of carriage when it failed to transport plaintiff from New York to Los Angeles on the agreed time and day, resulting to plaintiff being stranded in New York and missing her connecting flight to Manila,” the complaint pointed out.

there may be some merit here, considering that santiago is an international law expert.  i'm just wondering why it took that long to file the case...
