Report Of Cheating Hurts Pinoy Nurses In Norway
« on: December 14, 2008, 07:58:02 PM »
OSLO, Norway – Members of the first batch of Filipino nurses in the Norwegian capital who took the drug administration test in 2002 deplored the charges leveled against them that they cheated to pass the examination.

They also challenged their accuser to come out in the open and identify himself.

“The charges have greatly affected our reputation which we have difficulty in building because of racial discrimination," one nurse said. She noted that local patients now shun black-haired nurses.

The nurses met at the Philippine Embassy in Oslo on Friday to plan how to counter the damage brought about by the allegations and redeem their tainted reputation.

“We Filipino nurses are highly regarded here. It was very unfortunate that this issue came out," Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) president Cynthia Baluyot said. She called on her fellow nurses to continue dispensing their duties diligently and prove that they are competent and efficient workers.

In a story published in a local Norwegian paper recently, a certain “Romeo" approached the paper and reported that Rizalina Galiza Jenssen, general manager and owner of ASOR recruitment agency, was allegedly responsible in the cheating.

ASOR is responsible for bringing in nurses to Oslo and reports have it that since the signing of agreement with the Oslo government in 2003 to provide health workers, ASOR has earned close to 40 million Norwergian kroner (US$5.78 million).

Romeo told the paper that Ms. Jenssen copied all his answers and distributed the same to all the examinees, adding that she took the answers from him because she knew that he had the competency and experience in drug administration.

“(And) the proctor did nothing to deny Jenssen’s access to the school or even stop her from talking with the examinees," the paper reported, based on Romeo’s narration.

A member of the batch vehemently denied Romeo’s allegation saying that Mrs. Jenssen was not present when they took the exam.

“She was nowhere to be seen while we were taking the exam," Cesar dela Cruz said. A fellow nurse corroborated his statement saying that she only saw Mrs. Jenssen when she unlocked the door where the exam took place.

Fifty examinees took the test administered by Hogskolen i Vestfold. The school management denied the allegations and said that Mrs. Jenssen was possibly there before the examination but she was not present during the examination.

And contrary to Romeo’s report that almost all passed the exam, the school said that only half passed the test administered during that time.

Previous reports posted online say Rizalina Jenssen, who is married to a Norwegian and has been living in Norway for 28 years, is the only person authorized to recruit OFWs for Norway.

While the demand for nurses in that Scandinavian country is high, she was able to send 289 Filipino nurses to Norway in the last seven years due to the tough requirement. The recruits have to complete a six-month course on Norwegian language.

“To help applicants, Jensen established a small school that offers a course in Norwegian language in Ilocos Norte, her native province. Jenssen said, a total of USD 6,000 will be paid out by each recruit but only after the worker gets his or her first salary," said one report posted on the website http://www.nclex-rn.net.

“Upon arriving in Norway, newly hired OFWs still need to go though an advanced Norwegian course. The additional tutorial course usually lasts for a month and fees are included in the expenses," the report added.

It said Filipino nurses who are hired in Norway and have brought their families there consider it a dream come true. The starting salary is US$3000 a month.

“Even if Oslo, the capital of Norway tops the list of cities with the highest cost of living, residents enjoy various benefits. - GMANews.TV

We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.
