The southwest monsoon continues to weaken but will still bring
rains to most parts of Luzon and the Visayas while another low pressure area was seen northeast of Basco, Batanes, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Weather Forecaster Fernando Cada said as of 2 p.m. Monday, the LPA was spotted at 1,000 km northeast of Basco Batanes (23.0°N ,132.5°E) and will bring rains in Northern Luzon but has a small chance to turn into a tropical cyclone.
“Itong LPA na ito bago na yung kaninang umaga na nasa 400 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes (22.0°N ,126.0°E) na dissipate still has small chance to turn into tropical depression but we (weather agency) still continue to monitor the LPA and once it develops into tropical depression, it will be named “Lawinâ€, the 12th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year,†Cada said.
He said that Luzon, particularly its western sections, including Metro Manila will have partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies with the possibility of light to moderate rains due to the presence of the “weakening†southwest monsoon.
Cada said the southwest monsoon started to weaken on Monday as typhoon “Karen†moves farther away from the country.
In its advisory, PAGASA said that occasional light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced in Mimaropa (Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon and Palawan), Bicol region and Western Visayas.
