DOH: 119 people injured in pre-New Year's Day revelry The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday said a total of 118 people have been injured due to firecracker blasts this month, ABS-CBN News reported.
As of 6 a.m. Saturday, the DOH said that out of 119 cases it has received from the field, only 1 was victim of a stray bullet.
The DOH, which still on white alert, has been monitoring victims of firecrackers and other incidents as the New Year's Day draws near.
The white alert status of the DOH has begun in December and would end on the second week of January.
Most of the victims were using the popular firecracker "piccolo". Eight of the victims had their fingers cut off because of the severity of the damage while seven were hit in the eyes by firecracker explosions.
Dr. Eric Tayag, DOH's director of the National Epidemiology Center, said Secrertary Francisco Duque III would be making rounds in hospitals to monitor the victims of firecracker blasts on New Years' eve.
The medicines, such as tetanus toxoid, and treatment of minor injuries due to firecrackers are free in government hospitals.
Meanwhile, Tayag also advised revelers to take it easy eating food during the New Day's celebration, particularly those who have diabetes and heart ailments. People should also stay away from ham and other salty foods, he said.
