ZAMBOANGA CITY -- An election official was arrested for violation of Republic Act 10175, otherwise known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, the police said Monday.
Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, identified the suspect as lawyer Wilfredo Jay Balisado, 47, Region 9 Director of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Galvez said Balisado was arrested at around 2:45 p.m. Saturday in Barangay Biasong, Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.
He was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for violation of Section 4c on online libel of R.A. 10175 issued by a Quezon City court.
She said that Balisado was released at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday after he posted the recommended bail of PhP24,000. (TPGJR/PNA)
