With the onset of the southwest monsoon or “habagatâ€, expect rain showers and thunderstorms to prevail all over the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Sunday.
Aldczar Aurelio, weather forecaster, said light to moderate southwesterly surface wind-flow is prevailing over the western section of the country.
He said habagat is slowly moving in the country as it brings isolated rain showers expected in the afternoon or evening in Luzon, including Metro Manila, while scattered rain showers will be experienced over Mindanao.
Aurelio said the weather agency may soon formally announce the onset of the rainy season.
In past weeks, PAGASA said the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) was causing rain mostly in the afternoon or evening.
It said the southwest monsoon is expected to continue affecting the weather in the country.
In its advisory, PAGASA said the western section of Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas and Southern Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and coming from southwest to west over the rest of the country.
The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, it added.
