Typhoon Nina (Prapiroon) will bring light rains in Cagayan region due to outer rain clouds.

Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecaster Fernando Cada said areas within the 700-km diameter of the typhoon are expected to experience rains of 10 to 25 mm per hour, which is classified as “heavy to intense.

As of 4 p.m., Thursday, typhoon Nina was located at 660 kilometers east of Calayan Island, Cagayan (19.6ºN, 128.5ºE) with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.

PAGASA said that those areas within the 700-km diameter of the typhoon are expected to experience 10 to 25 mm per hour, which is classified as “heavy to intense.

The weather agency said that typhoon Nina is still far to directly affect any part of the country.

Cada said "Nina" is not expected to make a landfall in any part of the country, and is forecast to move northwest at 7 kph.

With its speed, he noted that it is likely that the typhoon will exit the Philippine territory either Sunday evening or Monday as it heads towards eastern portion Japan.

Cada said fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the northern and western seaboard of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Luzon and Visayas due to big waves caused by by Typhoon "Nina".

In its advisory, PAGASA said that Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan),Bicol,Western Visayas and the whole Mindanao will have occasional light to moderate rains or thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA said that moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northeast to Northwest will prevail over Luzon and coming from the Southwest over the rest of the country.
