The 5th Infantry Division has placed three brigades and six battalions on alert as Typhoon "Helen" batters Region 2.

The region is composed of the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, and Batanes, and Santiago City.

Besides these areas, "Helen" is also expected to affect the nearby provinces of Kalinga, Apayao and parts of Cordilleras.

Col. Miguel Puyao, 5th Infantry Division spokesperson, said that the rains and wind conditions in their areas of jurisdiction was relatively light for the moment.

"Conditions here are still okay but all our available forces are on alert," he said.

The 5th Infantry Division is headquartered in Gamu, Isabela.

Puyao said that they were paying special attention on Cagayan and Isabela as "Helen" is expected to strongly hit the above-mentioned provinces.
