State weather bureau has raised public storm signal no. 1 over the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela after “Dindo†has intensified into storm.
Weather forecaster Gladys Saludes said winds of 30 to 60 kilometers per hour (kph) are expected within the next 36 hours in these areas.
“Residents living in low-lying and mountainous areas under signals No. 1 are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides,†the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Saludes said as of 4 a.m. Wednesday, the center of tropical storm Dindo (international name: Doksuri) was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 480 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (15.1°N, 129.0°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
She said Dindo might bring rainfall of between 15 to 25 millimeter per hour (heavy - intense) within the 400-km diameter.
Saludes said the tropical storm has chance to make a landfall in Batanes group of islands, as it gains more strength and intensifies into a typhoon.
According to PAGASA, Dindo is forecast to move west northwest at 19 kph and expected to be 330 kms Northeast of Casiguran, Aurora by Thursday morning.
By Friday morning, it is expected to be 130 kms South of Basco, Batanes, and 400 kms Northwest of Basco, Batanes by Saturday morning.
Dindo is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.
Saludes said monitoring shows that the storm is headed to south east of China.
She said the tropical storm is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao especially the western section.
Residents in these areas are thus advised to be alert against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Visayas, Mindanao and Metro Manila will experience rains due to southwest monsoon, she added.
PAGASA said strong to gale force wind is expected to affect the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Visayas. - PNA
