Weathermen said yesterday that residents in Luzon, including Metro Manila, should brace for warmer weather brought about by the Ridge of High Pressure Area (HPA) extending over Northern Luzon which is expected to reach as high as
37 degrees in the second or third week of May.
Rene Paciente, senior weather specialist from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), disclosed that they are also not discounting the possibility that the
temperature will reach 35 degrees Celsius and up starting next month due to prevalence of the hot summer months.
Last Thursday, Pagasa said that the temperature in Metro Manila was registered at 35.2 degrees Celsius.
“Usually kapag May, dun natin nare-record iyung highest temperature. Sa second to third week ng Mayo mas umiinit ang panahon (Usually its during May that we record the
highest temperature. During the second or third week, we can expect the weather to get hotter), Paciente said.
Yesterday’s average temperature in Metro Manila was 26 degrees Celsius to 35 degrees Celsius, he said.
Paciente advised the public to always drink water and to wear light colored shirt or dress to beat the heat of the sun. He also advised the people to avoid long exposure from sun light from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to avoid heat stroke and to take a bath twice a day.
