Philippine Holidays in August
« on: August 20, 2010, 10:54:41 PM »
In the remaining days of August, two holidays are up.

Malacanang has declared August 21 (Saturday) as a nationwide special non-working holiday in observance of Ninoy Aquino Day.

Meanwhile, August 30 (Monday) is a regular Philippine Holiday, allowing the commemoration of the National Heroes Day.

By Proclamation 13 signed by President Benigno Aquino III, it reiterated that observing Ninoy Aquino day on August 21 instead of August 23 will avoid the imposition of unnecessary financial burden upon employers.

Aquino also said it ensures the continuity of government, business and commercial transactions, promotes productivity while preserving at the same time the solemnity of the observance.

It may be recalled that Republic Act 9492 has included Ninoy Aquino Day as a nationwide special holiday to be observed on a Monday nearest August 21.

This was subsequently cleared by Pres. Proclamation 1841 which has set Ninoy Aquino Day August 23 (nearest Monday).

But, as provided by RA 9492, which allows the President to modify the days of observance of holidays by Presidential proclamation, Presidential Aquino came out with Proclamation 13.

On the other hand, Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda has said that Malacanang sticks to the August 30 holiday, Monday.

The option not to move the holiday was also carried by national dailies last week.

Executive Order 292 issued in 1987 stated that National Heroes Day would be celebrated on the last Sunday of August.

However, Proclamation 1841 issued by former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo set the holiday on the last Monday of August based on Republic Act (RA) 9492 or the holiday economics law.

Lacierda said that Malacañang would review RA 9492 on a case-to-case basis.

RA 9492 rationalized the holidays in the country by moving them to the nearest Monday unless modified. (racPIABohol)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
