PAL Union Files Notice of Strike
« on: September 10, 2010, 06:37:51 AM »
The cabin crew union of the Philippine Airlines (PAL) on Thursday filed a notice of strike before the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) as the company and employees have yet to settle thier labor disputes.

According to Bob Anduiza, president of the Flights Attendants’ and Stewards’ Association of the Philippines (FASAP), they have filed the notice of strike as the flag carrier management has not acted on their demands.

“We have exhausted the negotiating process, and after countless mediation hearings, PAL remains unmoved and refuses to negotiate in good faith. All our please feel on deaf ears,” Anduiza said, in a press conference held in Manila Thursday morning.

PAL management criticized the filing of the notice of strike for being ill-timed as it would scare away tourists and would cause damage to the companies fragile finances.

The management assured its passengers that airline operations remain normal and all flights are operating as scheduled.

“There is no immediate work stoppage due to the union’s filing of a strike notice. It signals a legal process by which the two parties, with guidance from the labor department, would find ways of striking a balance between what the union wants and what management can afford and is prepared to give,” said PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna. - pna
