An active low pressure area (ALPA) may bring rain that can trigger flash floods and landslides in parts of Mindanao while hot weather still continue to prevail over Luzon, including Metro Manila, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday

PAGASA said as of 2 a.m., the ALPA was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 60 km north northwest of General Santos City.

In its advisory, PAGASA said Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over the Eastern Mindanao which may trigger flash floods and landslides.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening, it added.

Light to moderate winds from the east to southeast will prevail over Luzon, and coming from the east to northeast over the rest of the country.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.

Meanwhile, Boy Soriaga, weather forecaster, said parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, may continue to experience even hotter weather due to ridge of high pressure area.

Soriaga said Metro Manila’s maximum temperature recorded on Sunday at the Science Garden in Quezon City was 36.3 degrees Celsius, just a notch short of the 36.4 degrees Celsius registered last Friday (April 27).

Soriaga added the highest temperature recorded on Sunday was 37.9 degrees Celsius in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, followed by 37.7 degrees Celsius in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija; 35.7 in Clark, Pampanga; 34.2 in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; and 33 in Subic, Zambales.

In the Visayas, Mactan in Cebu recorded 31.6 degrees Celsius, while 30.8 degrees in General Santos City, Mindanao.

Baguio City, the country’s summer capital, 26 degrees Celsius on Sunday was recorded.

The highest temperature recorded this year so far was in Clark at 38.4 degrees Celsius on April 13.

PAGASA's five-day weather outlook for Metro Manila indicated Monday's temperature range at 25 to 36 degrees Celsius; and 36 degrees Celsius on May 2 and 3.
