BALER, Aurora -- Senator Edgardo Angara urged Department of Public Works and Highways to fast-track the construction of a bypass-road parallel to the earth dike of the Canili-Diayo dams in nearby Ma. Aurora town as he warned of “disastrous consequences†if overloaded trucks continue to ply the dike in defiance of the 10-ton load limit imposed by the government.
Angara, a native of Baler, said DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson should prioritize government funding for a P700-million bypass road so truckers would no longer use the dike in going to and from the province and prevent it from further damage.
He said Singson has assured funding for the 4.1-kilometer proposed bypass road not only once but four times and must make good on his promise to spare the communities lying around the dike from the specter of severe flooding in the event the dike collapses.
“During the budget hearings of the DPWH in 2011 and 2012 and in hearings in the Senate, Secretary Singson assured funding for the bypass road and he must release the money for the project as soon as possible,†he said. - journal.com.ph
