ILOILO CITY - - The committee on health of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) will be deliberating on two proposed ordinances  that will look into the sanitation of children’s play stations and arcades, and tattoo and piercing body shops in Iloilo City.

City Councilor Candice Magdalane A. Tupas, who is a doctor by profession initially recommended the provision of free alcogel or hand sanitizers “to prevent diseases” in the areas.

“Children use their hand and put them in their mouth, hence the hand-foot and mouth diseases, also airborne diseases like chicken pox,” said Tupas, chair of the committee which passed the ordinance on first reading during their regular session on Tuesday afternoon.

She said some mothers have already complained that their children acquired certain diseases after playing in play stations.

Tupas also pushed for another ordinance that will set guidelines in the operation of tattoo and piercing body shops.  She emphasized the proper use of needles, necessary to prevent human immunodeficiency virus –acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV-AIDS).

Meanwhile, Councilor Joshua Alim also pointed out the need to strictly implement the anti-smoking ordinance, especially in places closer to children’s play areas. (PNA)
