MANILA, Philippines -- A Filipina domestic worker in Doha, Qatar died of unknown cause last week while another overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia was arrested for allegedly killing his employer, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday.

In her report to the home office, Charge d'Affaires Rosario Lemque of the Philippine Embassy in Doha, identified the dead OFW as Melissa Leseniana.

She said the June 22 death is being investigated by Qatari authorities, who are holding Leseniana's employer in custody.

Lemque said as soon as Leseniana's death was communicated to her office, she sent assistance-to-nationals officers to the Hamad Hospital Morgue to look at the body. However, embassy officials were not allowed to take photographs by morgue officials as the case is still under investigation, her report said.

Lemque promised to follow up on the case and report on the developments.

In Saudi Arabia, OFW Joven Esteva, was arrested for allegedly killing his employer, Philippine Ambassador to the kingdom Antonio Villamor said in his report to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo.

Esteva, a family driver, was taken into police custody on June 3, Villamor said.

After asking the assistance of the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Philippine embassy officials are scheduled to visit Esteva on June 27 at the Malaz Central Jail in Riyadh where he is detained.

Villamor assured the secretary that the embassy will provide all the needed assistance to Esteva, including the services of a Saudi lawyer, and will report any new development on the case.

In both cases, the DFA refused to give details until official reports are in.
