CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija -- Aries Toledo, the Education student from Central Luzon State University (CLSU) who earned a gold and bronze medals in two sports events in the recent South East Asian (SEA) Games, on Friday thanked his provincemates for their warm welcome.
Toledo, who got gold in decathlon and bronze in the 4x400-meter men's relay in the SEA Games, said the support he received inspires him to further work for his fellow Filipinos and the country.
Governor Czarina Umali personally handed a PHP100,000 cash incentive to Toledo along with a plaque of recognition.
Umali also gave Toledo and his parents t-shirts which bear the athlete's heroic feat.
"I am very happy because of the warm welcome by our provincemates," he said.
Toledo, the eldest in a brood of three, enjoys a government sports scholarship. During his free time, he drives a passenger tricycle to augment the family income. His father is also a tricycle driver.
Umali said the province shares in the honors Toledo brought to the country.
She promised to give Toledo additional financial support from the provincial government everytime he fights for the country.
Meanwhile, Toledo encouraged the youth to also harness their potentials, especially in sports. (PNA)
