No transport strike in Cotabato City
« on: May 17, 2020, 10:51:24 PM »
COTABATO CITY – The public transport system here remained normal, as it did not join the two-day nationwide transport strike called by Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON).

“Everything is normal here since early today.” Halima Satol–Ibrahim, city information officer, told the PNA in an interview Monday.

She said local public utility jeepney (PUJs) drivers are pre-occupied with earning an honest living for families rather than join the transport slowdown.

“I think because of such reason, majority of our PUJs did not join the PISTON activity,” she said.

PISTON has launched its Oct. 16-17 transport strike in response to the government program to phase out public utility vehicles 15 years of service and above. The group wants government to junk the public transportation modernization program.

Earlier, the Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator tutol sa Phase out (STOP) said it would not join the move as it would be their respective families that would be affected foremost. (PNA)
