2 NGP sites in Antique up for rehabilitation
ILOILO CITY, July 1 (PNA) -- Two plantation sites established under the national greening program (NGP) in Antique will be subjected to rehabilitation after being affected by the extreme weather condition.
Forester Bernabe Garnace said that they found out during their evaluation of best NGP plantation sites that those established in towns of Barbaza and Patnongon have been “adversely affected by climate change†and must be completely rehabilitated.
The Patnongon covers around 50 hectares while the plantation in Barbaza is more than 100 hectares.
Garnace said that the people’s organization (PO) that is tasked to undertake the project is willing to do the replanting.
However, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will no longer shell out funds because their three-year letter of agreement (LOA) has already concluded.
The NGP regional coordinator said that the PO in-charge of the project is diligent, however, they have no control over the natural circumstances such as typhoons and fire, among others.
“They informed us that come rainy season they will do the replanting,†he added. (PNA)
