Negros Occidental Vet Office disperses PHP13-M in animal stocks, equipment in 2016

BACOLOD CITY, Jan. 12 (PNA) -- The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), through the Negros First Animal Livelihood Program and Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program, has dispersed about PHP13 million worth of animals and equipment to raisers in Negros Occidental last year.

The PVO report released Thursday showed the amount covers 56,602 heads of various livestock and poultry animals and five units of incubators benefiting 776 recipients, mostly individual and group farmer-raisers in the province.

PVO records showed that in 2016, the province had distributed 269 heads of gilt amounting to about PHP4.8 million, the biggest dispersal allocation.

Others were 60 heads of carabao, PHP2.4 million; 575 heads of piglet, PHP1.7 million; and 2, 000 heads of layers amounting to almost PHP1.1 million.

PVO also dispersed 30 heads of bull worth PHP900,000; 30 heads of ram – PHP720, 000; 11,447 heads of free-range chicken – PHP572,350; 1,613 heads of pekin duck – PHP266,145; 10 heads of boar – PHP250,000; and 19 heads of goat – PHP342,000.

The five units of incubator provided by the provincial government to recipient-raisers cost almost PHP203,000, records added.

Joselito Jaballa, provincial dispersal coordinator, said Thursday the total amount released was under the 2015 and 2016 Negros First Animal Livelihood Program and Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program fund.

The two complementing programs are aimed at upgrading the genetic makeup of the local existing livestock and poultry animals while augmenting the livelihood of local raisers.

Jaballa said that through animal genetic improvement, farmer-raisers are being equipped in boosting their livelihood through one, increasing the income.

“Aside from uplifting their economic condition, the project also has hugely contributed in achieving the province’s food security and self-sufficiency agenda,” he added.

Also, the animal dispersal is one of the province’s continuing measures to maintain its status as the country’s leader of livestock and poultry industry.(PNA)

Romans 10:9-10
"If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
