The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) has developed technology to produce
natural and eco-friendly dyes.
When synthetic dyes were introduced in the market, natural dyes were nearly forgotten. However, people are now becoming more and more environment-conscious. Today, there is an increasing demand for natural dyes. Natural dyes can be obtained from bark, wood, roots, berries, lichens, insects, shellfish and flowers.
The increasing demand led to the development of different research and development programs that would support the production of equally environment-friendly textile products. Thus, the project dubbed "Pilot Scale Verification of Selected Natural Dye Powder Production and Textile Application Technologies" was born.-manila bulletin
