The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will start sending out clean-up crew starting Monday to help local officials spruce up cemeteries as part of this year’s “Undas†(
All Saint’s and All Souls Day).
MMDA General Manager Corazon Jimenez said they will paid particular attention to four public cemeteries -Makati Public Cemetery, Pasay Public Cemetery, Navotas
Public Cemetery and Tugatog Public Cemetery in Malabon- identified by the agency as among the dirtiest during last year's "Undas".
Jimenez said four teams will be deployed to clean the front and surroundings of the cemeteries but the local government will be responsible for the areas inside the fenced or walled in graveyards.
Though the official said they have noticed improvements in public cemeteries more efforts are needed to ensure that those who will visit the tombs of their loved ones will not be inconvenienced.
Aside from the deployment of the clean-up personnel, MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Emerson Carlos said they have already updated their “Oplan Undas 2012 which would see the deployment of 2, 300 traffic enforcers and other personnel.
