Electricity rates of power retailer Manila Electric Company (Meralco) for the month of May will drop as generation charge decline to P4.4235 per kilowatt hour (kWh) this month from P5.0205 per kWh last April.
Ivanna dela Peña, Meralco’s VP and head of Utility Economics said for the month of May, generation charge will decline by as much as 59.70 centavos per kWh and this is due mainly to fuel reduction cost.
“The generation cost of Meralco’s suppliers reflected a significant decrease, mainly triggered by a considerable reduction in fuel cost last April,†said Dela Peña.
Dela Pena said a residential customer consuming 100 kwhs who paid P733.72 in April will see his May bill go down by P57.62 while residential customer consuming 200 kWh per month will experience a reduction of P165.02. - PNA
