For the second month in a row, the customers of utility giant
Manila Electric Company (Meralco) will experience relief in their net electricity bills as the reduction in transmission charges offset a slight increase in the billing period’s generation cost.
Meralco first vice president and utility economics head Ivanna G. dela Pena noted that the estimated average reduction for residential end-users will be P0.10 per kilowatt hour; as a result of the twin cost reductions in transmission and system loss charges at P0.1541 per kWh and P0.0282 per kWh respectively; vis-Ã -vis the P0.0844 per kWh climb in generation charge.
Onward, Meralco is eyeing that customers will further enjoy reduction in their electricity bills especially with the onset of the rainy season wherein the availability of relatively cheaper hydro is much anticipated.
