On Tuesday night,
Mayor Eulalio Alilio of Lemery, Batangas, went to the police to report that he lost P100,000 in cash and valuables, including two firearms, to thieves who smashed the window of his Ford Expedition while it was parked in front of a restaurant on Macapagal Avenue,
Pasay City.
Senior Supt. Raul Petrasanta, Pasay police chief, said the
robbery took place between 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in front of Hong Tai Yang restaurant.
The mayor told the police that he lost his clutch bag which contained P80,000 in cash and a cell phone. Also stolen were a laptop computer, a cal. .40 firearm and a Colt .45 pistol along with the gun permits, he added.
Petrasanta said the robbery occurred while Alilio and his bodyguards were eating at the restaurant.
He added that the mayor and his men were seated far away from their parked vehicle and did not hear or see anything unusual.
They noticed, however, that a white van parked beside their vehicle as a woman and her child walked around the parking lot.
After a few minutes, the woman left, taking the child with her as the van drove off.
The police, meanwhile, said the robbers probably used the van and the woman and child as distractions.
