ZAMBOANGA CITY, Aug. 11 -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through its Go Negosyo center, conducted agro-farming seminar for 141 farmers displaced by the ongoing conflict in Marawi City.

The Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) on Friday said the seminar conducted on Thursday was facilitated by the Joint Task Group Tabang, in partnership with the Go Negosyo.

The participants will soon develop a vegetable farm in Barangay Abaga, Balo-i, Lanao del Norte “to practice the knowledge and to eventually help them establish new means of sustenance.”

“We are prioritizing humanitarian efforts for the sake of those who were affected by this (Marawi) crisis,” Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., Westmincom chief, said.

Soldiers will be deployed to ensure that people in the evacuation centers be looked after, taken care of and listened to,” Galvez added.

Meanwhile, 420 internally displaced persons (IDPs) benefited on Thursday on the mobile kitchen project initiated by Mayor Majul Usman Gandarma of Marawi City.

The beneficiary-IDPs are temporarily sheltered at the evacuation center in Barangay Bubong, Saguiran, Lanao del Sur.

The soldiers prepared, cooked and distributed hot meals during the conduct of the mobile kitchen project dubbed as the “food for peace.”

Also launched on Thursday were other humanitarian programs, in collaboration with the Joint Task Group Tabang and the different stakeholders.

Government troops facilitated the conduct of parlor games for kids and film viewing to 150 children from the evacuation center in Barangay Bubong, Saguiran town.

Col. Thomas Sedano, Joint Task Group Tabang commander, said that female soldiers were also deployed to specifically address the concerns of the female evacuees, the elderly, and the children.

Sedano said they have also established medical stations in all evacuation centers to attend to the needs of the evacuees.

“Hitherto, we are pushing for the prioritization of more humanitarian efforts to facilitate their (evacuees’) emotional recovery,” Sedano added. (TPGJR/PNA
