The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday vowed to enforce the full force of the law against pranksters responsible for bomb threats that are now flooding the police hotlines in the aftermath of the Makati City bus bombing.
PNP chief Director General Raul Bacalzo also supported the call of the Catholic church urging pranksters to stop making phony bomb threats that only cause public anxiety.
Bacalzo vowed to apply the full force of the law against persons making prank calls, false bomb threats, and scare text messages.
Bacalzo’s pronouncement amplified the warning aired on Monday by Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte, against pranksters behind false bomb threats and scare messages.
“We would like to remind the public that anybody caught giving false bomb threats or giving false information will be investigated by the Department of Justice,†Valte said.
Bacalzo said the text scare being spread around is untrue and is obviously designed only to create panic.
“Public vigilance is the best response to this situation. Panic will only make matters worse,†said Bacalzo.
Bacalzo urged the public to immediately report persons responsible to emergency Hotline 117 or to via text message to 0917-847-5757.
Bacalzo said scare messages should be disregarded and deleted at once to break the scare chain.
