A high school student stabbed his teacher to death Friday morning in Caloocan City, allegedly because of threats to drop him from the roll because of his long hair.
Chief Inspector Moner Orang, Caloocan Sub-station 4 commander, identified the victim as Teodora Soner, 32, of Marilao, Bulacan province.
Because he is still a minor, police are not allowed to name the suspect, a second-year high school student at the Manuel L. Quezon High School in the city.
Orang said the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in front of the public high school. Soner was getting off from a motorcycle along Ascoville Road when the suspect suddenly emerged from behind and stabbed her.
Police said it looked like the student hid somewhere and had waited for his teacher to arrive.
Soner was rushed to the Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital for treatment of a single stab wound in the back, but was declared dead on arrival.
The 15-year-old suspect quickly fled the crime scene but was arrested later.
He later told Orang that he was reprimanded by Soner on Wednesday for failing to cut his long hair, and that the teacher had threatened to drop him from the roll.
Police sent the minor to the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) office for psychological tests.
According to the law, young offenders are examined by social workers to see if they committed the crimes they are accused of “with discernment.†It is then up to the CSWD to decide whether to subject young suspects to inquest or to take them into custody.
