Typhoon Lawin (international name Jelawat) continued to weaken Thursday but remained a threat to the
Batanes Group of Island.
Weather forecaster Jun Galang said as of 4 p.m. Lawin was at 210 km east of Basco (20.5°N, 124.3°E) with wind strength 185 kph, 20 kph less than the 205 kph earlier in the day, its gusty 220 kph winds reduced to 240 kph.
Lawin is forecast to be at 270 km north of Basco by Friday afternoon and, by Saturday afternoon, will be at 560 km north northeast of Basco.
PAGASA said areas within Lawin's 750-km diameter are expected to experience rainfall of 10 to 25 mm per hour, classified as heavy to intense.
The weather agency said fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, the seaboards of Southern Luzon and the Visayas due to
big waves generated Lawin and the southwest monsoon.
Cagayan, Calayan, Babuyan and the Batanes islands will experience stormy weather with rough to very rough seas, PAGASA said.
Abra, Ilocos Norte, Kalinga, Apayao and Isabela will have rains and gusty winds.
Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) will experience cloudy skies with occasional moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flash floods and landslides.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and the Visayas will experience cloudy skies with occasional light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.
