PILAR, Bataan -- Relatives of Bb. Pilipinas USA 2017 winner Nikki Zulueta here expressed their pride and look forward to the beauty titlist's homecoming this September.

Zulueta, 23, native of this town, is a civil engineer, and the eldest among three children of Dr. Nelson and nurse Ana Zulueta of Chestnut, Los Angeles, California.

Nikki bested 19 other young Filipino-Americans during the fifth annual Binibining Pilipinas 2017 pageant held last August 20 in Redondo Beach, California.

“Congratulations Nikki, I am proud of you! The whole family is so happy because you won," cousin Vincent Zabala, 29, said in an interview on Wednesday.

Zabala, Nikki’s first cousin, resides in one of the clusters of houses in Barangay Nagwaling here where the beauty titlist's parents used to live.

"I got goosebumps. I was very happy while watching the coronation in the internet. Our relatives were so glad and Nikki posted some photos in Facebook," Zabala said.

He said the pageant emcee made a mistake in calling the winner as candidate No. 9 but called the name of his cousin who was No. 19.

Zabala recalled that he took care of Nikki when she was seven to eight years old.

He said that Nikki’s parents settled in California more than 15 years ago after her father finished Medicine in Russia.

He said that Nikki’s father was among the Filipinos sent to Russia by then President Ferdinand Marcos to study medicine.

"Nikki with sister Ali will be coming to Bataan any time this September," Zabala said, adding that the former's latest visit to Bataan was last January. (PNA)
