Fed up with slow internet
HOUSE PUBLIC INFO CHAIR SUGGESTS CREATION OF TASK FORCE JUPITER TO ENSURE ZERO RED TAPE, ZERO CORRUPTION IN PHL COMPONENT OF TRANSPACIFIC SUBMARINE CABLE
The usual, knee-jerk reaction to a proposed investment project like the
JUPITER Trans-Pacific submarine cable system is the offering of investment incentives. However, whenever we offer incentives that means we lose funds that we could have spent on education, health, social services, and infrastructure.
As Chair of the House Committee on Public Information, I believe the better way for our government and country to support the JUPITER investment is to make sure there is zero red tape in its path and that the proponents will not encounter any bureaucratic nonsense and corruption at the national, regional, provincial, and local levels. Any government official or employee who stands in the way of the JUPITER system must be considered an enemy of the Filipino people, removed from office, arrested, thrown in jail, and permanently barred from voting and from serving in government.
Any collaborator of such corrupt official or personnel should also be arrested, prosecuted, stripped of the right to vote, and banned from public service, blacklisted from any government project, and barred from getting any business permit.
Delays and corruption cost time which the investors cannot afford to lose because they are running on a tight schedule and more importantly, the Filipino people have endured super slow internet for far too long.
I recommend to President Rodrigo Duterte the creation, via executive order, of a Task Force Jupiter that will ensure the full cooperation, zero red tape, and zero corruption commitment of the Philippines is delivered.
My other concern is that the submarine cable could run through the Benham Rise and other marine territories of the Philippines. Three issues are involved here: 1) marine environment and resources protection; 2) provision of maritime security by the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Coast Guard; and 3) safety of the Jupiter crews particularly from the typhoons that come from the Pacific. Task Force Jupiter must address these issues as well. (END)
