LAOAG CITY -- The third-class municipality of Solsona in Ilocos Norte is the latest recipient of a new national government program which aims to uplift the living conditions in disadvantaged communities.
Through its Assistance to Disadvantaged Municipalities (ADM) program, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will provide PHP15 million to the mountainous town of Solsona located in the easternmost part of Ilocos Norte.
The town is frequently hit by typhoons, resulting to heavy damage in infrastructure such as roads and bridges.
According to town mayor Alexander Calucag, his constituents are grateful for the release of the ADM fund which will be used to construct additional farm-to-market roads in remote villages.
Specifically, the program fund can be utilized for the provision of water system, evacuation facility, local access roads, small water impounding systems, and sanitation and health as "catch-up mechanism" to assist municipal governments in empowering depressed communities.
With a budget allocation of PHP19.43 billion as provided under Republic Act No. 10924, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the ADM program for 2017 in support to the national government's goal for inclusive growth. (PNA)
