LAOAG CITY -- The local government of Bacarra town in Ilocos Norte province is set to receive an award from the Office of the President on Wednesday for being one of the top 20 most resilient municipalities in the country.
Bacarra Mayor Nicomedes dela Cruz confirmed this Tuesday as local officials prepared to leave for Manila to accept the award, which recognizes the “balikbayan town” of the north’s proactive role in disaster preparedness.
Dela Cruz said the local government here, along with other public organizations, has institutionalized measures before, during and after a disaster strikes to prevent loss of lives or further damage to property.
Among Bacarra’s best practices is the conduct of preemptive evacuation of residents living in pre-identified highly-vulnerable coastal villages in the event of natural calamities, as well as regular disaster drills. (PNA)
