LAOAG CITY, Aug. 8—The government-run Ilocos Norte Water District (INWD) is considering entering into a joint venture with the Villar-led Prime Water Corporation (PWC).

INWD general manager John Teodoro confirmed this today, Aug. 8 as the proposed public and private partnership agreement is expected to improve water supply in the province.

With the ongoing infrastructure developments in the province, Teodoro said it is high time to consider this joint venture with a private company.

Teodoro said about 90 percent of the 132 permanent and job order employees may probably consider transfering to Prime Water once the agreement is finalized.

This is because the private firm offers better compensation and benefit packages to its employees.

As one of the government-owned and controlled corporations in the Philippines, INWD shall still regulate the activities of the private group. In 2013, PWC started dialogues with the INWD management on the proposed project.

Over the years, Ilocos Norte residents have enjoyed low water rates due to INWD’s excellent water delivery service and management. With limited government resources, however, the INWD management said it is now ready to embark on latest innovations on water developments to keep up with the changing time. (PNA)
