LAOAG CITY -- The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) and the Resiliency Office on Saturday said they are prepared to secure residents due to tropical storm "Jolina".
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Lilian Rin assured that rescue equipment is ready "in any eventualities" in case the weather will worsen.
"Tinitignan natin ang panahon at sa ngayon, beneficial pa ang ulan na dulot ng bagyo (We are looking at the weather, and right now the rain due to the storm is still beneficial)," she said. However, she emphasized the need for preparedness due to the unpredictability of the weather.
The PDRRMC, including officials from the PSWDO, Philippine National Police (PNP), Provincial Engineering Office (PEO), Provincial Health Office (PHO), Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), Sustainable Development Center (SDC), and Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET), have already pre-positioned food items, medicines, and non-food items like plastic tents and utensils.
Relief packs are ready and supplies are also stationed at the resiliency clusters stationed throughout Ilocos Norte, she said.
The 21 towns and two cities of the province have been prepared for the storm since Friday.
Dump trucks, rubber boats, ambulances, and other equipment needed during disasters are stationed and ready to be dispatched in various strategic locations in the province.
As of 8:00 a.m. Saturday, the weather bureau said typhoon "Jolina" has weakened after crossing the rugged terrain of Northern Luzon.
As of press time, Tropical Cyclone Warning System (TCWS) 2 remains in Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur while La Union, Apayao, Isabela, Quirino, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Abra and Nueva Vizcaya are under TCWS 1. (PNA)
