Ilocos Norte eyes home for the aged
« on: May 08, 2020, 07:10:57 PM »
LAOAG CITY — A home care facility for the aged is being considered to be established in Ilocos Norte courtesy of the provincial government.

Dr. Josephine Ruedas, Officer-in-Charge of the Provincial Health Office, said it is about time for a home for the aged to be established in the province and all throughout the country.

Earlier this year, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) based in Region 1 initiated the construction of a home care facility in San Juan, La Union.

With an initial fund of Php12 million, this is the first ever public facility in Region 1 that will cater to the needs of abandoned, ailing senior citizens and those neglected by relatives due to financial difficulties.

In Ilocos Norte, Ruedas said the proposed home for the elderly will prioritize abandoned, neglected, unattached, homeless and abused senior citizens.

In a DSWD survey, it was found out that more than 700 senior citizens are living by themselves in La Union alone.

A similar situation occurs  in parts of the Ilocos provinces and Pangasinan. (PNA)
