”We are ready.” This is the statement of Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin regarding the government’s security preparations for the upcoming Holy Week commemorations.

“We are ready for the Lenten season which will start next week,” Gazmin said.
Brigadier General Roberto Almadin , co-chairman of the Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Council, warned that terror groups may take advantage of large gatherings in churches, cathedrals and tourist destinations frequented by the public during the long holidays.

Likewise, airports, seaports and other public transport terminals may also be targeted, said Almadin.
“That’s an assessment, it’s an opportunity for them so we are not discounting that possibility,” Almadin said, adding that terror groups were “media hungry”.
