Except for authorized law enforcers, soldiers and police personnel, carrying firearms by civilians in Siargao Island is now banned in the entire duration of the 19th Siargao International Surfing Cup from September 23-30.

This developed after Philippine National Police Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome approved the ban to carry firearms outside residence, including issuance of permits in all areas of Siargao Islands effective Sept. 23-30, 2012, to ensure the safety of public in time of the 19th Siargao International Surfing Cup 2012.

The PNP Chief ordered that only members of the PNP, AFP and other law enforcement agencies performing official duties are exempted from the ban.

On the other hand, the Chief PNP also ordered all PNP personnel in the surfing capital of the country to intensify the conduct of checkpoints, mobile/beat patrols and other police security operations in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies and the local government units.

Influx of Filipino and foreign tourists have started to arrive in Siargao island since last week either to witness or participate in the week-long surfing competition.

“The gun ban including suspension of issuance of permits to carry firearms outside residences were part of the initiatives to strengthen security measures for this year’s International Surfing Cup,” said Caraga Police Regional Director Chief Superintendent Carmelo E Valmoria,

Valmoria added the entire PNP leadership encouraged communities to be more vigilant against criminal activities and to report any crimes committed or report unusual individuals to the nearest police station.

The Police Regional Office based in Butuan City hopes that no firearm-related incidents or other crimes will occur.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
