Gov. Gumarin highlights Guimaras economic gains in his 3rd State of the Province Address

JORDAN, Guimaras, Jan. 11 (PNA) -- The Province of Guimaras has steadily improved over the years as evident in the way of life of majority of Guimarasnons.

Governor Samuel T. Gumarin highlighted in his 2016 State of the Province Address (SOPA) Wednesday at the Provincial Capitol here the gains of his administration, which he said were not possible without the help of his constituents, his colleagues in governance, and the private sector.

“In three years, we have progressively reengineered our system by reintegrating the principles of good governance, full public accountability and in support to the international pact of Sustainable Development Goals,” said Gumarin, who is now serving his second term.

The economic improvement can be seen in the increase in the 2015 income.

“In 2015, the Province had a total gross income of Php514.2 million, an almost 21 percent increase from the 2014 total gross income of Php426.8 million,” he said, which was derived from the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) and local taxes.

Gumarin said the money was used to fund programs and projects geared towards the province’s goal of becoming the agri-tourism capital of Western Visayas.

Gumarin said the province was also successful in its poverty alleviation projects as evident in the decline in poverty incidence in 2015.

Per Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data, poverty incidence in the island-province is at 20.8 percent in 2015, 16.4 percent lower than the 37.2 percent poverty incidence in 2012.

He said now, a Guimarasnon family of five members needs a monthly income of Php6,634 to meet their basic needs and P9,501 to stay out of poverty.

He said 2015’s poverty incidence is the lowest compared to 2006, 2009 and 2012 data. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
