ZBO)Gov’t school ZAMBOANGA CITY, Aug. 7 – The Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) is building a memorial garden and a museum to serve as the resting place of dead marine species in this city.

Dr. Milavel Nazario, ZSCMST president, on Monday said the two projects have a budget of P5 million -- P1 million for memorial garden and P4 million for the museum.

The memorial garden will serve as burial site for dead marine species such as turtle, fish and others. Buried marine species, to include its scientific name, will be properly marked.

She the ZSCMST is always requested to bury in its property every time marine species are found at the shores of this city “that is why we decided to put up a memorial garden.”

Meanwhile, the skeletal remains of the giant sperm whale will be displayed at the museum once it is completed.

The 52-foot long sperm whale was buried at the premises of the ZSCMST after it was found dead in the waters of this city on September 12, 2012.

Nazario said they need P2  million to exhume and reconstructed the skeletal remains of the whale to be displayed at the museum.

She said the marine species museum can serve as one of the tourist attractions of this city. (RGAAG/PNA)
